William Blair & Company equity research analysts received seven "Best on the Street" awards in The Wall Street Journal's 19th annual analyst survey. "The mission of our equity research analysts is to provide superior investment ideas and value-added insight for our clients. The 'Best on the Street' awards are a tremendous honor because they signify the hard work, talent, and 100% commitment to client success that are required to fulfill that mission," said Bob Newman, head of William Blair's equity research group.

The following William Blair analysts were included in The Wall Street Journal's "Best on the Street" rankings for 2010:

  • Jim Breen – No. 2 in Internet & Computer Services
  • Mark Lane – No. 2 in Insurance: Non-Life
  • Sharon Zackfia- No. 2 Leisure Goods & Services and No. 2 in Restaurant
  • Meggan Friedman – No. 4 in Advertising & Publishing
  • Jon Andersen – No. 5 in Household & Personal Products
  • Mark Miller – No. 5 in Retailers: Food & Drug

Each of the analysts listed above has now won the award multiple times in his or her career. The performance of William Blair's consumer franchise was particularly impressive–all four of the team's eligible analysts (Andersen, Friedman, Miller, and Zackfia) received the award in 2011.

William Blair's universe of equity research coverage comprises more than 470 quality growth companies across the following sectors: consumer, global industrial infrastructure, global services, financial, healthcare, and technology.

Results of the "Best on the Street" survey were published in the May 10 issue of The Wall Street Journal. This year's 220 winners were drawn from more than 2,300 eligible analysts. The survey recognized the top five analysts in 44 industry sectors, based on their performance during 2010. Analysts' skill in picking stocks was measured using recommendation-performance scores calculated by FactSet Research Systems on the basis of the estimated total return, including price change and dividends of each eligible stock an analyst covered in an industry.
