Midtown Educational Foundation

In January 2014, William Blair & Company began a two-year partnership with community partner Midtown Educational Foundation, providing multiple levels of support. The foundation raises funds for Midtown Center for Boys and Metro Achievement Center for Girls, which provide supplementary after-school programming for 4th-12th grade students from low-income families in the city of Chicago.

As a result of William Blair's financial contribution, both the girls' and boys' centers were able to replace old, outdated computers with brand-new Mac computers and Lenovo laptops. In June 2014, members of the Community Impact Steering Committee attended the unveiling of the improved computer lab at the Metro Achievement Center for Girls. In addition to other volunteer activities with Midtown, in July 2014 William Blair hosted 30 high-school students for a half-day career seminar. Focused on teaching the students about core business activities at the firm as well as providing the students with practical, useful advice to help them become college- and career-ready, the day included presentations on "Creating a Personal Brand," "The Importance of Internships," and "Top Ten Interview Tips." The seminar concluded with a lunch panel of diverse William Blair employees, across departments. Panelist Ryan DeVore, head of Private Client Advisors, added, "It is energizing and fortunate for our firm to have the opportunity to embrace the enthusiasm, excitement, and youthfulness of the talented students from Midtown; moreover, it is incredibly valuable for these students to have the exposure and visibility to so many of our terrific professionals. This is a very successful partnership."

William Blair's support of Midtown Educational Foundation extends through 2015.
