What do you do for William Blair?

As the head writer for the firm’s marketing department, I help our bankers, financial advisors, and other professionals articulate their expertise and communicate with clients. I do this by writing and editing the firm’s newsletter, white papers, brochures, and e-mail marketing pieces.

 

What is your educational and work background prior to William Blair?

I have a Bachelor’s in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master’s in reporting and writing from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. I've also passed the Certified Financial Planner exam. Prior to William Blair, I was a research assistant at the Illinois State Legislature’s Legislative Research Unit in Springfield.

 

What do you like most about working at William Blair?

William Blair is a great work environment because I’m surrounded by smart, professional, motivated people. The firm has established a culture built on stability, independence, and long-term relationships with our clients. It is inspiring to work for a company that has been true to its values for more than 75 years and will continue to do so for decades to come.

 

What has been your most interesting professional experience while working at William Blair?

Each issue of our newsletter contains a profile of one of our clients; reporting and writing these stories has been the most interesting experience of my career. I love writing these articles because they give me a chance to see, and then explain, how the services our firm provides help clients achieve their objectives. At a time when people are increasingly cynical about the financial industry, it is important to keep in mind that we are ultimately helping couples save for their kids’ college educations, entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and not-for-profit organizations build new buildings.
