Those who inherit IRAs and other retirement accounts—other than a spouse—will generally have to withdraw all their assets from the accounts by December 31 of the 10th anniversary year of the original IRA owner’s death. The law affects retirement accounts in which the owner died after December 31, 2019. Under the prior law, most beneficiaries were able to stretch withdrawals from inherited retirement accounts over their lifetimes.
