For the second year in a row, William Blair Investment Management has won Institutional Investor's U.S. Investment Management Award in the Small-Cap Growth Equity category.*

Institutional Investor's 7th Annual U.S. Investment Management Awards recognize U.S. institutional investors in nearly 40 asset classes who stood out in the eyes of the investor community for their performance, risk management, service, and other factors described below.

To determine winners, a short-list of top performing managers in each category is identified by Institutional Investor magazine's editorial and research teams in consultation with eVestment's research team. They analyze investment strategies based on factors such as one-, three- and five-year performance, Sharpe ratio, information ratio, standard deviation, and upside market capture.

More than 1,000 leading U.S. pension plans, foundations, endowments, and other institutional investors are then asked to vote for up to three of the top-performing managers in each strategy in which they invested during the past year. Institutional Investor's editorial team analyzes the results of the survey to determine the investment manager winners.

William Blair Investment Management was recognized for its Small and Small-Mid Cap Growth strategies. The Small Cap Growth strategy is managed by portfolio managers Michael Balkin and Karl Brewer, CFA, and associate portfolio managers Ward Sexton, CFA, and Mark Thompson, CFA. The Small-Mid Cap Growth strategy is managed by Brewer, Dan Crowe, CFA, and Robert Lanphier. We’d like to thank them and our entire team of small- and mid-cap research analysts.
