About Marcelo
Marcelo Assalin, CFA, partner, is head of the emerging markets debt (EMD) team and a portfolio manager at William Blair Investment Management. He is also a member of Investment Management’s executive leadership team. Before joining the firm in 2020, Marcelo was head of EMD at NN Investment Partners starting in 2015 and lead portfolio manager for blended debt portfolios. He was also the lead portfolio manager for NNIP’s local currency strategies. Previously, Marcelo was a senior EMD portfolio manager and head of emerging market sovereign debt and local currency at ING IM USA (now Voya Financial). Before that, he held various roles at SulAmerica Investimentos, including CIO. Marcelo began his career as a credit analyst at Bank Boston in Sao Paulo, covering Brazilian companies. He received a B.A. in business administration & accounting from the University of São Paulo.
