The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the product or service you have with us. This information can include:

- Demographic information, such as date of birth, nationality, and tax residency
- Social Security number and/or driver’s license, passport, or other government ID number

All financial companies need to share customers’ personal information to run their everyday business. In the section below, we list the reasons financial companies can share their customers’ personal information; the reasons William Blair chooses to share; and whether you can limit this sharing.

William Blair and Company, L.L.C., the group of companies operating under the brand name of William Blair, and all of their affiliates, branches, and representative offices.
How does William Blair protect my personal information?
To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings.
How does William Blair collect my personal information?
We collect your personal information, for example, when you:
- correspond with us
- give us your contact information
- open an account or seek advice about your investments
- tell us about your investment or retirement portfolio or earnings
- use William Blair’s websites and/or mobile applications (including the My William Blair mobile application)
- become a beneficiary of a trust or an estate
- otherwise interact with us, use our services, or provide information in connection with your relationship with us
We also collect your personal information from other sources such as organizations which we use to perform anti-money laundering identity verification and negative news screening.
Why can’t I limit all sharing?
Federal law gives you the right to limit only:
- sharing for affiliates’ everyday business purposes—information about your creditworthiness
- affiliates from using your information to market to you
- sharing for nonaffiliates to market to you
State laws and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing. See “Other important information” below for more on your rights under state law.
What happens when I limit sharing for an account I hold jointly with someone else?
Your choices will apply to everyone on your account unless you tell us otherwise.
Affiliates
Companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
Our affiliates include William Blair & Company, L.L.C, William Blair Investment Management, L.L.C, William Blair International, Ltd., William Blair Investment Services (Zurich) GmbH, William Blair B.V., Wo Bai Business Consulting (Shanghai) Co., William Blair CEMD, LLC, William Blair MB Investments GP, L.L.C., William Blair Advanced Strategies, L.L.C., WBC Holdings, L.P., William Blair International (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., and all of their branches and representative offices.
Nonaffiliates
Companies not related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
Nonaffiliates with whom William Blair shares your information for the reasons identified above include service providers that provide services on William Blair’s behalf, including IT service providers; legal and other professional advisors and auditors; regulators and law enforcement agencies.
Joint marketing
A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you.
William Blair does not currently have any joint marketing partners.
Other important information
For California residents only.
In accordance with California law (to the extent applicable), we will not disclose information we collect about you with companies outside of William Blair, unless the law allows. For example, we may disclose information to service your accounts, to provide rewards or benefits you are entitled to, or to provide you with targeted advertising (to the extent you have not opted out of such advertising). We will limit disclosing information among our companies to the extent required by California law. We collect personally identifiable information from online customers when those customers use William Blair’s websites and/or online services (including mobile applications). This information includes, but is not limited to, customer names, email and mailing addresses, phone numbers, and social security numbers. William Blair also does not Share (as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”)) personally identifiable information with third-party persons or entities in the event the customer opts out of such Sharing, unless otherwise authorized by applicable law. If William Blair’s online customers wish to change the contents of the personally identifiable information previously supplied to William Blair, those customers may do so by contacting their William Blair representative and requesting the change. Alternatively, some websites and online services offered by William Blair permit customers to change the contents of their personally identifiable information online. William Blair cannot guarantee protection from web-based criminal conduct that could result in the collection of an online customer’s personally identifiable information by an outside party.
