Gorman has been with William Blair for more than 20 years and in the securities
business for more than 30 years.
His team manages investments for about 100 families around the
United States. In addition, it works with corporate executives to assist
with restricted-stock sales, 401(k)s, 10b5-1 plans, financial planning,
and investment management.
Gorman and his team begin with a foundation of financial planning
to understand a client’s capacity for risk, together with expectations
of spending, saving, and planning for contingencies. Using an open-architecture
platform supplemented with proprietary research
from William Blair, they build customized portfolios that aim to
provide the expected returns and limited volatility that fall within
a client’s parameters.
Each client is provided with personalized service and annual in-depth
portfolio reviews. Gorman’s assistant, Julie Gritzenbach, has received
numerous accolades from clients for her prompt and efficient
Gorman began his career in New York City in the 1980s as a bond
salesman with Salomon Brothers and Drexel Burnham Lambert. He
moved to Chicago in 1990 and transitioned to the wealth management
business with Salomon Brothers in 1992. He joined William Blair
in 1995 and is a vice president and wealth advisor with the firm.
Gorman graduated from Lafayette College in 1976 with a degree in
physics. He is former president of the board of Giordano Dance Chicago,
is current president of the Kendall College Trust board, and serves on
the planned giving committee of Lurie Children’s Hospital. He has two
successful children and enjoys tennis, theater, deep-sea fishing, cooking,
flying airplanes, race car driving, and photography.
